First let me say that I am a Christian. I was brought up in the Christian faith from day one. I accepted Christ Jesus when I was a teenager. I believe Jesus died on the cross for my sins so I will have eternal life.

However, I have realized that even though I have listened to many sermons, went to sunday school and took part in church small groups, I really do not know, comprehend or recall the verses of the Bible. This has come to the fore front from spending time at home now during the Covid – 19 pandemic. I have prayed to God asking for forgiveness for not serving him as I should. Isn’t it something how we start praying more and leaning towards God more during a crisis. And you know what, that’s o.k. God is there for us every day and every moment. He knows us. We need to have faith. Even though it is essential to read God’s Word we must also allow God’s Word to read us. Have you felt far away from God at times as I have? It happens. I now am reading the Bible more and have found that if I read a verse or two and take a word or phrase from what I have read and think about the meaning of that word it helps. I then read the same verse slowly and still ponder on that one word or phrase. Some times I’ll read it a third time. At times when going over the verse nothing seems to resignate at that moment. However I’ve had it when all of a sudden it hits me later on in the day or even the next day.

Now that I am in MI-Next Phase I am asking myself …Who am I? What am I looking for? I wonder if God wants me to take the time for myself right now. However that feels wrong and self absorbed. If I took a mirror and looked into it and asked who are you? God would answer, you are my beloved, the one Jesus loves. My answers would be, you are a wife, mother, daughter, Nana. All the obvious. I feel that I have to know myself more if I’m going to know God better.

Then today I read Philippians 2 vs 3-4. It reads

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also in the interests of others. “

Wow this can be difficult at times. This is when we really need Jesus’ help. Someone who spends their life taking care of others shows humility. Humility is not thinking badly or low about yourself it’s thinking highly about God and other people.

This is so needed in todays world.
